Are you relatively new to the world of landscaping? If so, you may love the great outdoors and are keen to develop your back garden so that everyone can enjoy as it changes through each season. Yet your green fingers may be just a lighter shade of grey at the moment and things are not working particularly well. If you believe that your landscape needs a boost, what can you do in the short term?
Right Types of Plants
Begin by talking to a professional landscaper to see if you've planted the right shrubs, trees and grass for your location. They must be able to deal with the microclimate in your area. If not, it doesn't matter how well you water everything as it may succumb to the heat or humidity. Remember, certain types of grass like Buffalo are designed to put up with the unwavering heat of Australia. They will thrive in such conditions and your garden will look all the better.
Water Infiltration
You may be watering to your heart's content, but is the nutrient actually reaching the root base where it will be more effective?
Try doing something simple here and aerate the ground with a pitchfork. This is quite easy to do and can be achieved in less than an hour, but by doing so you will create an avenue for the moisture to get deep into the soil. This could a big part of your battle.
Mineral Deficiency
Next, have a look at the soil condition. This needs to be closely matched to the climate and local conditions that prevail, but you may need to have some samples analysed before you can be sure. Ask a landscaping company to do this for you and the samples will be sent off to determine composition. When you receive the report back, you will know whether it is deficient in a specific type of mineral, crucial to success.
For example, you may find that it is nitrogen deficient and in this case you should get some bags of nitro topsoil, purpose-made for this problem area. You just need to spread this on top of the existing soil and then turn it over, so that it mixes with what is already there.
It's Teamwork
If you need any further help or advice to really turn the look and feel of your garden around, talk with the experts at your local landscaping company for their input.
