4 Environmental Precautions to Take While Landscaping

Landscaping could be the first thing you want to do once you get the keys to your newly bought house. And you have every right to be excited about it. However, you have to make sure not to cause any environmental damage while at it. Here are some things to keep in mind when carrying out landscaping.

Trees

Trees serve as homes for hundreds if not thousands of animals, including birds, squirrels, butterflies and other smaller insects. Trees may also be the source of support for climbing plants that would otherwise not be able to grow vertically. With this in mind, you should do your best to not destroy trees while landscaping. Pruning branches can be acceptable, but complete uprooting or cutting down of the tree could be destructive for the environment. If the trees are completely standing in the way of your landscaping then you can choose to relocate them doubly. This means that for every tree you cut, you plant two more in a place where no harm will come to them.

Water

If you live next to a water body such as a river, lake or ocean and you are considering landscaping options, make sure that all the possibilities you come up with do not include water pollution. Landscaping can pollute the water through soil movement or dumping of chemicals used during landscaping into the water bodies. Remember that this water hosts a number of animals, plants and other organisms which could be harmed by the chemicals you drain into the water. If the water body is within your property, make sure to create landscaping pathways across it that do not interfere with the flow of the water.

Earth

Most landscaping activities involve a lot of activities at ground level. This can be grass planting, placing concrete pathways or laying down pebbles or gravel. Avoid landscaping activities which disturb the soil too much. Consider the stability of the soil profile before building a landscaping structure. With a destroyed soil profile, you are bound to suffer problems such as flooding, stagnant water and land movement.

Air

Consider the state of the air when landscaping. Do not indulge too much into activities that produce a lot of emissions that may pollute the air. These can be in the form of fumes, dust or contaminated steam. On the other hand, make sure to include plants in your landscaping plans. Plants are natural air conditioners and purifiers. Not only will they add aesthetic appeal to your landscaping project, but they will also help in reducing air conditioning costs.

The team were great and they helped me to plan how I wanted to change the grounds. I learnt a great deal and I hope by sharing it with you I can help you to landscape your property.
