Landscape Construction- What to Consider

Landscape construction is categorised into two types: hardscapes and softscapes. Hardscapes are where 'hard' landscape materials such as stone, pavers, plastics and wood are used for landscape construction. Hardscapes are also all the manmade structures incorporated into the environment. These structures include, barbecues, fire pits, patios, fireplaces, kitchens, deck and fencing as well as water features (fountains, ponds, dry river beds and waterfalls).

Softscapes refer to the horticultural elements incorporated into a particular landscape. Such elements include flowers, plants, shrubs and turf. Services involving softscapes include planting these soft elements as well as installing trees, ornamental beds and general maintenance of laws. General maintenance duties include spraying grass, removal of weeds, mowing the lawn and the trimming of shrubs.

Landscape construction is a growing industry as more and more people desire even a small landscaped lawn for their comfort and enjoyment. In addition, this landscape construction also adds value to the property, and a well-maintained, aesthetically pleasing lawn is a great asset to have. In terms of pricing, small projects such as general lawn maintenance can be inexpensive and affordable, whereas larger more complex projects such as building patios, decking or transforming an entire lawn can be quite expensive.

What to consider when looking into landscape construction?

It can be little daunting to take on the task of landscape construction, even if you are employing the services of trusted businesses in the landscaping industry. Here is a list of things to think about:

  • Nature of your current lawn and any underlying problems you are aware of, including drainage problems and soil conditions
  • Always have an strong idea about what your lawn will be used mostly for. Perhaps you have young kids who will use the lawn as a playground, or you may just want a place to relax and entertain your family and friends from time to time.
  • Prepare a budget to work with and ensure you discuss this budget with landscape professionals prior to beginning any kind of work.
  • Look for inspiration online or in magazines and use these to clearly explain what it is that you desire
  • Honestly assess how much you will be able to spend on maintenance and if you cannot spend much, then decide if you will have the time to maintain the lawn that you are envisioning. This will help you decide whether you just want to opt for low-maintenance landscaping options

One final piece of advice is to spend some time doing your research and looking at landscaping business portfolios to make your final decision.

About Me

How Landscaping Can Improve Your Property Hello! My name is Cindy. I have decided to start a new blog which will detail the ways in which landscaping the grounds on your property can improve the way it looks and its value if you decide to sell. Before I called in a team of landscaping contractors, I had no idea about the benefits of landscaping. However, I was really unhappy with the way the grounds of my property looked. The team were great and they helped me to plan how I wanted to change the grounds. I learnt a great deal and I hope by sharing it with you I can help you to landscape your property.
