3 Steps To Plan Your Dream Landscape Layout

You've finally bought your own home and can now plan the landscape you always dreamed about but could never do in a rental property. You're almost there! Planning a dream landscape layout takes some careful planning to make sure you get what you want without ending up making rookie mistakes. You can either get landscape supplies and do the job on your own or hire a landscaper to do the work, but start with these steps to plan your dream garden layout:

Establish A Landscape Wish List And Narrow It Down

It's important that you brainstorm what you want from your landscape to establish what may or may not work for the space. Start with a bucket list of everything you want and then narrow it down based on the space available. For example, perhaps you're looking at creating a large pebbled walkway, but the existing space may only allow for a much smaller path. Perhaps you want a vegetable, herb and flower garden, but space restrictions may require you to choose just one type. Maybe you want a storage shed, but it may not work well with the existing area. A wish list helps you dream, while narrowing it down brings you one step closer to reality.

Pay Close Attention To The Topography Of Your Garden

The topography of the space will make an impact on the type of landscape you choose. For example, if the area is sloped or has loose soil, then you will need to build retaining walls to prevent erosion. If the garden gets ample sunlight, then you will need to choose year-round vegetation that can withstand hot summer conditions and cool winter winds. If you spend a lot of time outdoors, then you may want to create sitting areas with some shade protection based on the way the sun hits your property.

Choose Features That Accentuate The Space

You can't always have everything—and you don't want to, either, because too many features can make the space look overcrowded. Instead, choose features that accentuate the space. For example, there's no sense of having stone steps, brick paths, timber decks and tiled patios for your garden because it may all be too much. Keeping it simple with fewer features, like decks and pathways, may be just enough to make your landscape look magnificent. You can also choose smaller elements like waterfalls, lighting, plant beds and potting benches.

Use these ideas to help you better plan your dream landscape layout on your own or with the help of a professional.

About Me

How Landscaping Can Improve Your Property Hello! My name is Cindy. I have decided to start a new blog which will detail the ways in which landscaping the grounds on your property can improve the way it looks and its value if you decide to sell. Before I called in a team of landscaping contractors, I had no idea about the benefits of landscaping. However, I was really unhappy with the way the grounds of my property looked. The team were great and they helped me to plan how I wanted to change the grounds. I learnt a great deal and I hope by sharing it with you I can help you to landscape your property.
